We remind readers that there will be an in person lecture at the Library on Monday, June 2 at 6.30 pm. This is our Annual Lecture. The lecturer will be our trustee Norman Hopkins (Strood) and he will be speaking on John ‘Rob Roy’ MacGregor 1825-1892.
MacGregor was a renowned traveller and philanthropist. He founded the Shoeblack Brigade, supported Lord Shaftesbury’s efforts in behalf of destitute children, becoming vice-president of the Ragged School Union and took an active part in the work of the Open-Air Mission, the Pure Literature Society and the Protestant Alliance. He was also an active member of the British and Foreign Bible Society and the Reformatory and Refuge Union. The entire profits of all his works were devoted to these and other charities.
Note – there will be no live zoom service.
